Coronovirus advice - Conference postponed

We regret to say we have decided to postpone our conference in London this year. We would urge attendees to cancel hotel and travel bookings as quickly as you can – in case you are able to recoup money.

Day One – Wednesday March 18th

 

11:00 - Morning refreshments / Register / Marketplace open: 50 stands to explore!


11:30Welcome / Agenda / Panel Questions / Table discussion topics – we will be using an app called  Mentimeter to gather suggestions of table discussion topics for the afternoon sessions.


11:50KeynoteKriss Akabusi. Kriss grew up in the care system before gaining fame in athletics. He will be talking about his life and our conference theme.


12:45 - Lunch / marketplace / network


1:45NCER Data update – Edd Shackleton – Edd will tell us about latest developments from NCER to enhance the information we have. If you want a workshop with Edd, bring your laptop.


2:15NAVSH Speed updating – a rapid-fire update on key strands of NAVSH work.

3:15Networking / Table discussions – we will use your suggestins from earlier to set up table discussions. You will have this session and the one tomorrow to attend two different discussions.

4:30-5:30AGM the annual meeting of the NAVSH charity. 

Time to go to your hotel room and freshen up before …..


6:45Dinner / Choir / Quiz we will start with a drinks reception and then hear a couple of songs from a choir of looked after young people from across London. After dinner we have a pub quiz followed by dancing!

Day Two – Thursday March 19th

 

9:00Welcome – Lynsey and Intro from the City of London DCS Andrew Carter


9:20Keynote – Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Education, with responsibility for children and families – Vicky Ford – an opportunity to hear from the new Secretary about Government priorities in our world.


09:50Keynote – What Works for children’s social care? Hear evidence based research from NESTA on what works to improve outcomes for children in care.


10:20Keynote – Ethical Leadership – Carolyn Roberts, Head Teacher Thomas Tallis School, Greenwich talking about the traits of an ethical leader and how it can support us in our conference theme.


10:50 - Morning Refreshments / marketplace / networking


11:20Keynote - Ofsted – working together: Education and Social care – two leaders from different parts of Ofsted will be talking to us about their work.


11:50 - The NEU a brief slot for the National Education Union to tell us about how they might support Virtual School Headteachers


12:10Young Person’s perspective – Danielle has been through the care system and is now working as an intern with the Department for Education in Sheffield.


12:30Panel Discussion an opportunity to ask our speakers questions about things they have talked about this morning. We will use the Mentimeter app to take questions.


1:00 - Lunch / marketplace / networking – last chance to visit the exhibitors


2:00NAVSH Next steps looking forward to the future with our new chair Jancis Andrew, the VSHT in Leeds.


2:30Networking / table discussions – a second chance to join in the discussions from day one.


3:15Closing remarks / feedback activity / Afternoon refreshments available
