PALAC Promoting the Achievement of Looked After Children

Bespoke programme for Virtual School teams and Educational Psychologists

PALAC is a pioneering research-led programme to support professionals to enhance the achievement and wellbeing of care experienced and adopted children and young people in school

What is PALAC?

  • PALAC has been developed with and delivered by researchers behind national and international studies on children and young people in care
  • This bespoke programme for VS and EP teams supports colleagues to develop strategic approaches to practice
  • PALAC equips professionals with the evidence base for good practice and, together with the facilitators, works collaboratively over a year to adapt and apply this knowledge to individual settings and across LAs Participants of PALAC will be provided with:
  • A handbook of practice, key research papers and advice on supporting system-level change in schools and LAs
  • Case study publications of PALAC projects in schools from the past three years
  • Case studies of the projects from previous VS and EP participants
  • Guidance and support across the year from a facilitator with practice and research experience in the education of children and young people in care
  • Support on initiating, managing and sustaining
    change in a setting
  • The chance to collaborate with other professionals from other settings
  • Publication of your PALAC project in further case study publications

Programme Structure

Day 1 (full day): 27th September 2018
Introduction to PALAC audit, handbook and overview of the evidence
Facilitator meeting 1 (one hour): 17th October 2018
Facilitator meeting 2 (one hour): 11th June 2019
Review (half day): 3rd July 2019 Review of projects and learning

Fee: £2200 for up to three members of staff
from the same setting/ institution
